Rum Bum Racing Gets Whacked at VIR
What was shaping up to be great race for the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing Beemer ended when Matt Plumb was whacked from behind. The hit was strong enough to send Plumb helplessly into the outside wall with a good thump.
“I just got plowed into,” said Plumb. “He was going 10-15 miles per hour faster than he should have been at that point (they approach turn 1 at VIR at nearly 170 MPH before slowing to around 50 MPH for turn 1).
Plumb got out of the wrecked M3 unhurt, but upset that their race was ruined needlessly.
Nick Longhi started the race in the No. 13 M3 for Rum Bum Racing and quickly began making up ground before swapping seats with Plumb during the first pit stop.
Like Longhi, Plumb was flying and soon led the race, but had to stop for gas and tires one more time. Fueled up and ready to go, the M3 was flying again, sure to be heading for top 5 or even podium finish before he got mugged.
“We led the race, we were on a good strategy, we gas and tires to get to the end and then (shrugs). We definitely would have had a top 5 and may be a podium finish today.”
Rum Bum Racing now heads home to Florida to fix their beat up ride before the next race at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut on Memorial Day Weekend.
